The festivals in Fuengirola, just like summer, begin with "Semana Santa"(Easter week) which not only represents the best of traditional and religious celebrations in the area but also means the beginning of long days spent on the beach.
The people of Fuengirola start celebrating on midsummer's eve (The Feast of St. John) on 23rd June. Then in July, Fuengirola gives homage to the Virgin of Carmen, the Patron Saint of sailors and all men of the sea. Summer's twilight months of July and August are just a preamble for the great October Festival (Feria). This Festival in honour of the Virgin of the Rosary is one of the most important in the whole Andalucía and FUENGIROLA takes great pride in the exceptional quality and fame of its many equestrian events and activities. It is a time of great bullfighting tournaments, horse and carriage exhibitions and of genuine Andalusian singing and dancing.
It is a great time to have fun, meeting people and make friends. The star of the Feria del Rosario is, without a doubt, the horse. During this major festival, the beauty of the many horses and carriages makes the streets of Fuengirola the very best spectacle.
FUENGIROLA offers children, young people and adults amusements to suit all tastes. Ranging from visits to the Zoo to rides through town on the tourist train, to spending a day having fun with the whole family in the nearby Aquatic Park.
Fuengirola's nightlife also offers a wide variety lot of different entertainment such as dancing and having fun in the many discos, nightclubs or pubs or enjoying romantic horse carriage rides along the Paseo. The town even has a Theatre which is completely run and managed by foreign residents, which makes up quite a large community in Fuengirola. In this theatre, spectators can enjoy many excellent shows performed in English all the year round.
Fuengirola also offers some of the best shopping centres on the Costa del Sol. Every Tuesday, thousands of visitors come to the "mercadillo" (open market). This "mercadillo" is the largest in Andalucia and one of the most important in Spain.
